It started in Sea Isle City, New Jersey — the beach where Nick and Alana met over twenty years ago.

Two decades later we bring our three daughters to the same sand. They fill their pockets faster than we can carry them. Family Tides is what happened when we stopped leaving the best stones behind.

Before we arrived

Some of these stones may contain mineral material with geological histories stretching back hundreds of millions — and in some cases potentially more than a billion — years. Before there was a Sea Isle City. Before there was a Jersey Shore. Before our family existed, these stones were already here.

Family Tides didn’t begin as a business. It began as a walk — a dad and his three daughters on the same shore, noticing colors, veins, shapes, and stones naturally formed like hearts. They brought them home, washed them, spread them out and talked about which ones felt special.

We don’t choose every stone. There may be hundreds in front of us, but every once in a while one makes you stop. We hope you choose yours the same way: not the one you think you are supposed to like, but the one you keep coming back to.

There will never be another stone with exactly the same journey. That is why our natural pieces are 1 of 1. We did not manufacture the stone. Time did. We found it, recognized something special in it and gave it another chapter.

You are not just buying something new. You are becoming part of something very old.

Our beginning

This is how Family Tides began

A summer in Sea Isle City. A boardwalk, a corner, a conversation. Nick and Alana met there more than twenty years ago and never really left the place behind.

Now we come back with three daughters, and the walk has a purpose. Everyone collects. Everyone has an opinion about the best find of the day. The stones come home in a bucket, get washed on the porch, and dry in a row on a towel.

Most go back to the beach. A few don't. Those become necklaces and rings, made at our kitchen table, carrying a real day from a real shore.

How a stone becomes a piece

Three steps, all by hand

  1. Step 1

    Found Together

    The five of us walk the same shore, pockets and buckets filling as we go. Nothing is bought, nothing is sourced.

  2. Step 2

    Washed & Chosen

    Back at the house we rinse the sand off, lay everything out to dry, and argue happily over which stones stay.

  3. Step 3

    Made By Hand

    The keepers are wrapped or set at our kitchen table, one at a time. Each stone becomes one piece and only one.

Heart Tides

The ocean keeps handing us hearts

We find naturally heart-shaped stones more often than anyone expects — never carved, never shaped, never helped along. A break at the right angle, then years of surf softening the edges.

They are the rarest thing we bring home, and the piece people reach for when they are giving something that has to mean something.
